Disability Services
FMS Workforce Solutions Centers offer a range of disability services and resources to assist individuals living in our communities find employment and receive services. Each center is equipped with assistive technology for those who need it, as well as staff who are knowledgeable and dedicated to helping people reach their professional goals and increase their financial security. Our Disability Resource Coordinator can assist both job seekers and businesses in the following ways:
Jobseekers
Identify community resources for people with disabilities and connect them
Identify career, training, and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities
Identify and leverage disability-related resources and partners, including NYS Education Department (NYSED) Adult Career and Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) and the Office of Children and Family Services/NYS Commission for the Blind (OCFS/NYSCB), to support collaboration around a job seeker’s employment and/or training goal(s)
Ensure individuals with disabilities can access the programs and services they need, including career and training services offered through FMS Workforce Solutions Center
Advise individuals about the Ticket to Work program
Offer workshops about disclosure, reasonable accommodations, work incentives, job seeker rights and responsibilities
Employers/Community
Provide consultation and workshops with employers on reasonable accommodations, disability etiquette, worksite accessibility, and the potential of hiring people with disabilities
Education about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Federal Tax Incentives, On-the-Job Training, Work Incentives, and making an inclusive recruitment/hiring process
Coordinate and collaborate with area organizations and programs through community events and councils
